The goal of Best Behavior is to facilitate the academic achievement and healthy social development of students in a safe environment that is conducive to learning.

Following the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)  approach, Best Behavior provides school-wide, classroom, and individual student interventions, as well as family communication and collaboration. Resources on harassment, bullying, and cyber bullying are also included. Based on more than 30 years of rigorous research, Best Behavior offers supports for all students in the school, some students with additional needs, and the few students who need the most intensive supports.

From the time it began district-wide Best Behavior implementation in 2009– 2010 through the 2012 –2013 school year, Napa Valley Unified School District experienced an overall reduction of 50 percentage points in suspensions, 57 percentage points in number of days of suspensions, and 88 percentage points in expulsions. Additionally, the California Healthy Kids Survey indicated that students in the district felt safer and more listened to, cared for, and connected at school than ever before.
